NAPPANEE (IN) - The Marian University Ancilla Baseball team returned to Indiana from their Spring Break trip Sunday morning, and Monday afternoon they hosted a double-header at NorthWood High School against the Clark State College Eagles (OH). Despite partly sunny skies and a warm day for March, the wind played havoc all afternoon, and Clark State left with a pair of victories, 11-2 and 13-5.
GAME-1 (L 11-2): The Chargers were limited to just 6 hits (all singles) in this one, with all 6 coming from just 3 players. Freshman Devon Ortiz reached safely on 3 occasions, Sophomore Logan Clark hit twice and reached via a walk, plus he scored both MUAC runs, and Redshirt Freshman Owen Negron added a single as well. Sophomore pitcher Dylan Ford managed 2 2/3 innings in relief without allowing an earned run, plus he struck out 2 batters. 3 Charger pitchers combined for 9 strikeouts in 7 innings of work.
GAME-2 (L 13-5): Marian Ancilla started a little slowly at the plate in this game (4 total hits, all singles), but they put together a bit of a rally late, spreading 5 runs across the 5th, 6th, and 7th innings. Sophomore Logan Clark again posted a pair of singles and drove in a run in this game. Sophomore Aiden Marcus singled and drove in a run, and Sophomore Evan Lanphier singled and stole a base, while Sophomore Jaxson Hixson drove in a run for the Chargers. Freshman Jaylan Yates pitched an inning and 1/3, striking out 3 of the 4 outs he was responsible for. This time 5 Charger pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts in just 7 innings of work.
The Marian Ancilla Baseball team is back in action tomorrow, Wednesday (3/11), when they travel to Trine University in Angola (IN) to take on their Junior Varsity team. First pitch of the double-header is scheduled for 4:00p, so please come out and support the team, if you are able!!
