PLYMOUTH (IN) - Sunday afternoon (4/19), the Marian University Ancilla Baseball team concluded its season series with the Glen Oaks Vikings. While the two teams played back in mid-March, they also played a double-header this past Friday (4/17), resulting in the Vikings taking all 4 victories over the weekend. Below is a quick look at notes/highlights from this Sunday's outings.
GAME-1 (L 11-4): Game-1 was just one example of what has been troubling for the Chargers all season...allowing late rallies to opponents. Trailing just 6-4 headed into the 6th inning, the Chargers allowed 5 runs in the top of the 6th, and the Vikings were able to break this game wide open.
Freshman Michael Fry had a nice day at the plate, hitting a single and a solo home run. Sophomore Logan Clark drove in a pair of runs on 2 singles, while Freshman Devon Ortiz also reached safely on a pair of singles. Freshman reliever Layne Harman pitched a scoreless 7th inning, allowing just 1 hit.
GAME-2 (12-2 in 5 innings): Glen Oaks used their momentum from game-1 to jump out to an early 12-0 lead through 2 1/2 innings before the Chargers were able to plate 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning. The score remained the same for the final 2 innings, and the game ended early due to the 10-run rule after 5 innings.
Sophomore Logan Clark drove in his third run of the day, while Freshman Cade Quick added a double to his tally. Freshman relievers Aedan Muench and Linardy Rodriguez each pitched a scoreless inning in relief. Neither allowed a hit, both allowed a walk, and Rodriguez struck out a batter.
The Charger Baseball team continues its season with a busy slate this weekend. Thursday (4/23), they head to Kellogg Community College for a double-header against the Bruins. Friday (4/24), they return home for a non-conference clash against Edison State with start times of 2:00p & 4:30p. Then Saturday (4/25), they host those same Bruins from Kellogg to wrap up that MCCAA season series. Please come out and support these young men, as their season will end within the next two weeks, and they have just 6 home games remaining!!
