PLYMOUTH (IN) - Saturday afternoon, the Charger Baseball team hosted the Kellogg Bruins for the final time in their 2025-2026 series. The Bruin bats showed out, however, plastering 34 runs on the scoreboard over the course of the two games, winning 7-1 and 27-9. Below are some notes/highlights from the weekend double-header.
GAME-1 (L 7-1): We want to give credit where credit is due, and in the first game, Kellogg pitcher Joshua Midbo pitched a 7-inning no-hitter, striking out 9 Chargers, to move to 6-1 on the season. While the Chargers scored a run, they did so when Sophomore Jaxson Hixson drew the lone walk to lead off the bottom of the 6th inning. He advanced later on a passed ball, then scored from second base while other action was going on in the field. The Chargers did get a solid relief performance from Sophomore Dylan Ford, who pitched 3 innings, allowing 2 hits, 2 walks, but no runs, and he struck out 4 Bruins.
GAME-2 (L 27-9): While this score might reflect that MUAC now has a football team, it does not. Also, it might indicate it was a shortened game, but it was not. It was just an odd offensive explosion late in the contest that separated the Bruins. Through 5 innings, it was just 4-1 Kellogg, with the Marian Ancilla run coming on Freshman Liam Dupuis-Cundy's sacrifice fly that scored Redshirt Freshman Owen Negron in the bottom of the 4th inning.
However, in the top of the 6th inning, the Bruins added 11 runs, using 7 singles, a double, 4 walks, and an error. In turn, the Chargers responded with 8 runs of their own in the bottom of the 6th inning to make it 15-9, avoiding the 10-run rule. The Chargers hit 4 singles, 2 doubles, and a sacrifice fly, plus they were the beneficiaries of 3 walks and an error.
Freshman Cayden Nolan singled in the first run, Freshman Cade Quick singled in the second, then Nolan later scored on a wild pitch and it was 15-4. Sophomore Dylan Ford hit a sacrifice fly to trim the lead to 15-5, then Redshirt Freshman Javier Higham reached via an error and Freshman Boaz Rice came around to score, and it was 15-6. Freshmen Armando Arroyo and Andrew Kirschner each doubled, scoring the final 3 runs of the inning for the 15-9 score.
But, like I said above, it was a weird outing. Kellogg came back to the plate and score another dozen runs in the top of the 7th inning for the 27-9 final tally. In total, they used 7 walks and a hit batsman in the inning, adding to their 3 singles, 2 doubles, and sacrifice fly in the top of the 7th. Freshman pitcher Jaylan Yates was solid, going 5 innings, allowing just 3 earned runs while striking out 4 Bruins.
