TWIN LAKE (MI) - Coming off of three consecutive tournament victories, the Marian University Ancilla Men's Golf team had their eyes set on a fourth triumph in a row. However, the course at Stonegate Golf Club proved too tough for many, and the Chargers (319) came up just 5 strokes short of Grand Rapids Community College (314), finishing in 2nd Place.

Through 5 matches thus far in the Spring season, the Chargers have set the bar for everyone else, winning 3 of those matches while placing 2nd twice. That impressive start to the season has Marian Ancilla sitting atop the Western Conference in the MCCAA, 5 strokes ahead of the GRCC Raiders through 3 conference matches.

Freshman Juan Pablo Benavente (+3) finished just 1 stroke behind the leaders, shooting a 75, as no one on the course shot even par or under par. Sophomore Hunter Zdyb (+7) tied for 12th with a 79, Freshman Jace Lugar (+10) tied for 22nd with an 82, Sophomore James Sanders (+11) tied for 25th with an 83, and Freshman Jeffery Cook (+14) tied for 38th with an 86.

In what has been an often-interrupted season due to weather, the Chargers now get what seems like an eternity to rest up, as they don't take to the course again until Friday (4/24). They will head to the Montcalm tournament at the Glenkerry Golf Course in Greenville, Michigan, this Friday for the final leg of the conference season. Tee times are currently set to begin at 10:00a, so please come out and support these talented young men, if you are able!!
