PLYMOUTH (IN) - In a season with rarely any non-conference matchups, the Marian University Ancilla Softball team hosted Region 12 but non-conference foe Edison State Community College Wednesday afternoon in a battle of programs each nicknamed the Chargers. Unfortunately for the Marian Ancilla Chargers, Edison State proved to be too much, winning twice in 5 innings, 17-1 and 15-1. Below is a quick look at some notes/highlights from yesterday's action.
GAME-1 (L 17-1): The opening game in yesterday's double-header was a bit odd, as Edison State scored 17 runs, however, Marian Ancilla pitching only allowed 1 earned run. Freshman Rebecca Braude was solid in relief, pitching 3 innings, allowing 2 runs (1 earned) and striking out 2. At the plate, Freshman Lauren Bruce knocked a double, while Freshman Abby Harmon reached safely twice via a walk and a single. Braude and Sophomore Cayla Beasley each stole bases. Beasley also drove in the Chargers' lone run.
GAME-2 (L 15-1): Edison State (24-6) continued it's dominance, reaching base safely 20+ times and scoring 15 runs in game-2. Freshman Lauren Bruce continued a nice day batting, going 2-for-2 with another double to her credit. Freshman Mickayla Naanos added the third hit, a single, while Freshman Ryleigh Reiblich drove in the only run for MUAC.
The Marian Ancilla Softball season is winding down, with 8 games remaining, 6 at home. Their next double-header is tomorrow (4/24) at Lansing Community College with start times of 3:00p and 5:00p. They return home Saturday (4/25) to take on Kalamazoo Valley Community College, with those games beginning at 1:00p and 3:00p. Please come out to support these ladies, if you are able!!
