First Half 'D' Sparks Chargers

CENTREVILLE (MI) - Saturday afternoon, the Marian University Ancilla Women's Basketball team traveled to Glen Oaks Community College to help the Vikings open their newly renovated gymnasium. The Chargers were suffocating defensively in the first half, allowing the Vikings just 5 points in the first quarter and 2 points in the second quarter, entering the locker room at halftime up 28-7. They were a bit more generous in the second half, however, they still managed to leave town with a 60-33 victory.

Sophomores Annika Davis and Santana Eubanks paced the Chargers, each posting a double-double on the afternoon. Davis scored 17 points and collected 10 rebounds, while Eubanks went for 15 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. In fact, 7 of Eubanks' rebounds came at the offensive end of the floor, helping keep possessions alive.

Sophomore Audri Prater, a transfer from Indiana Tech, came up big in the second half, as she buried 3 consecutive 3-pointers to help Marian Ancilla expand its lead. Prater finished with those 9 points, plus she hauled in 6 rebounds of her own.

The Chargers now turn to a tough week ahead. Wednesday, they will host MCCAA West Division leader Lansing Community College, then Saturday they will host Grand Rapids Community College who currently sits second in the division standings. Wednesday's game is scheduled to tip at 5:30p, while Saturday's action should begin at 1:00p. Please come out and support these ladies, if you are able.
