Chargers Win 3rd in a Row

PLYMOUTH (IN) - Monday evening, the Marian University Ancilla Women's Basketball team hosted Glen Oaks Community College in a game that was rescheduled three times due to weather complications. The Chargers were happy to finally get this one in, as they survived the Vikings, 56-41.

The Chargers were without starter Santana Eubanks for the second consecutive game due to injury, but once again others stepped up in her absence. Sophomore guard Annika Davis, coming off her strongest week of the season, scored 14 points to lead the navy & gold. She also collected 9 rebounds, 5 of them at the offensive end of the floor. In fact, the Chargers out-rebounded the Vikings 45-28, with 21 of them coming at the offensive end.

Sophomore guard Aaliyah Keil was once again a problem for the opponent with her defensive pressure, plus she added 9 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists. Sophomore guard Ciara Bonner also chipped in 13 points and 5 rebounds, but the biggest contribution might have come from Freshman forward Emma Nelson. With just a few minutes to go, and Eubanks, Davis, and Keil all on the sideline due to various bumps & bruises, the Vikings were making a dent in the Charger lead. Nelson came up with three big baskets down the stretch to help Marian Ancilla hold on and finish off Glen Oaks once and for all. Nelson finished with a season high 13 points and added 6 rebounds.

The women's team continues its busy week as they host Southwestern Michigan College tomorrow, Wednesday (2/4), at the LifePlex in Plymouth. Tip time is set for 5:30p. Thursday they host Andrews University, and Saturday they travel to Glen Oaks for the rematch, as they help the Vikings open their brand new gymnasium. Please come out and support these ladies, if you are able!!
